What is RSS?
RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication. It enables web sites a standard way of publishing content in a way that makes it easy to know when new information is live.
Each "RSS feed" has web site address (aka, link or URL) that you copy and paste in to your favorite RSS Reader. Similar to an e-mail program, your RSS Reader of choice will alert you when updates are available.
Here are some popular RSS Readers:
- Google Reader (web-based, and can be added to your iGoogle home page)
- My MSN (also web-based - use the "Add Content" -> "Add RSS")
- RSS Popper - freeware plug-in for Outlook and Outlook Express
- Safari 3 on OS X will recgonize an RSS feed and allow you to subscribe to it directly in Mail
- Mozilla Firefox - a popular free browser that has RSS "Live Bookmarks"
- Mozilla Thunderbird - from the same organization that created Firefox, this full-featured e-mail client has built-in support for RSS feeds
