Outdoor Writers Association of America
The Bodie McDowell Scholarship program is open to all college students from all communications and journalism disciplines and all schools. Candidates should have clear, significant goals in outdoor communications.
For the 2017-2018 academic year, OWAA will award up to $22,000 to selected students. Recipients are paid at the commencement of the fall semester. OWAA’s trustees are required by our bylaws to distribute a calculated portion of the Bodie McDowell Fund to college scholarship recipients each year, so actual scholarships amounts may vary.
In 2017, up to $2,800 will be awarded to selected outdoor communicators seeking continuing education and improvement of their craft. OWAA’s John Madson Fellowship provides funding for members and non-members to attend the OWAA annual conference and other educational opportunities that will enhance a fellowship recipient’s communication skills. The fellowship is funded through the John Madson Fellowship Fund, an endowment that thrives primarily through contributions and fundraising efforts. Its goal is to enhance professional communication skills for as many outdoor communicators as possible.
