The Salt Lake City Urban Forestry Division is one of largest municipal urban forestry programs in the State of Utah with over 120, 000 inventoried trees, not including over 1,000 acres of city parks, City Cemetery and another 1,00 acres of natural areas.
The position plans, develops, administers and supervises the staff, contractual services and operations of City wide urban forestry programs and related maintenance activities. Oversees and develops programs, policies and procedures to enhance and protect the City’s Urban Forest.
Knowledge of principles, policies and practices of arboriculture; principles and practices of public administration; urban and community forest operations, applicable conservation; applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations; budget development and management; state and federal grant application and management; public relations, public outreach techniques; contact negotiation and administration; principles and practices of work planning, scheduling and evaluation; effective training and coordinating techniques; effective supervisory practices and techniques; effective customer service techniques.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture or four years experience in management & administration of urban forestry demonstrating thorough knowledge of practices, techniques, tree and plant species and arboriculture standards.
Current certification as Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Certification as Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Municipal Arborist and/or Master Arborist or ability to obtain with 12 months of hire date is desired.
