Job Title: Undergraduate research assistant
Reports to: Research assistant/Grower
Position Overview: Responsible for the care and maintenance of floriculture research plant material and maintenance of greenhouse areas.
Position is May 1, 2017- August 31, 2017.
Opening and closing of black cloth each day for photoperiod sensitive experiments.
Daily irrigation of crops as needed.
Filling pots and transplanting.
Application and removal of whitewash to greenhouses.
Sanitizing and washing of pots and containers.
Maintenance of stock plants, including pruning and harvesting cuttings for propagation.
Performing soil tests.
Maintenance of cooling pad systems.
Applying fertilizers to crops as instructed by technician.
General greenhouse maintenance, including cleaning benches, painting, power washing, spraying down walkways and trash removal.
Monitoring crops for possible insects and pathogens.
Assisting graduate students with research projects as needed.
Valid driver’s license.
Employee will be required to work approximately every third weekend, as part of a weekend schedule.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Greenhouse experience preferred, but not required.
