Job Description Summary
 
SUMMARY
Oversees and manages the organization, administration, periodic review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the Plant Science & Landscape Technology Program.

Job Responsibilities
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Oversees and manages the Plant Science & Landscape Technology Program
• Responsible for accreditation activities
• Provides leadership by assuring accreditation standards are met
• Assists with budget monitoring and reporting
• Supervises and assesses the performance of assigned staff
• Serves as a liaison between the college and external constituents
• Oversees didactic instructional process including student evaluations and schedules
• Counsels and advises students
• Coordinates development of curriculum and revisions
• Prepares course schedules and makes instructional assignments
• Performs didactic instruction and evaluation of program courses
• Markets program and recruits students
• Coordinates Advisory Committee and all program admission activities
• Provides input for outcomes assessment and program objectives
• Develops and maintains effective communication with prospective applicants, students, graduates, faculty, instructors and community
• Conducts faculty, instructor and staff meetings
• Performs other duties as assigned
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or a related field
o Significant related experience may substitute for education
• Minimum of five years of related professional experience
• Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others
• Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department
• Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations
• Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a business area’s budget
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
• Possess comprehensive knowledge of Plant Science & Landscape Technology theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
• Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently
• Demonstrated intermediate project management skills
• Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Work Schedule Standard hours Monday – Friday 8:30 – 5:00
