Park Maintenance Worker/Forester – Parks Department

The City of New Brighton has an opening for a full-time Park Maintenance Worker/Forester. Specific job expectations and requirements are identified in the job description.


Monday-Friday (7:00 AM to 3:30 PM)

(Subject to some evening and weekend emergency call-outs)

FLSA Status

Full-time/Nonexempt position; Member of the Teamsters Local 320 Union

Minimal Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree in forestry, horticulture, natural resources or closely-related field
  • Current Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Tree Inspector Certification  Current Minnesota Department of Agriculture Pesticide A & E license (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
  •  Minimum of two years’ experience within the parks maintenance field that have responsibilities similar to those in this City classification
  •  Must hold a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Previous work related experience with forestry responsibilities in parks, public works or related services 
  • Good customer service skills

Desirable Qualifications

    •  Previous experience with forestry responsibilities in a municipal government work environment
    •  Currently holds a Certified Arborist License
    •  Previous experience operating medium and/or heavy equipment (tool cat, tractors, skid steer, front end
    • loader).
    •  Previous experience in snow removal using trucks and loaders
    •  Proficient in using a personal computer and operating Microsoft Windows based software programs and
    • previous experience with a handheld GPS Recorder
    •  Current tanker endorsement on Class B commercial driver’s license (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
    • Current chain saw operations certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire)


Starting salary $24.47 per hour / $24.96 per hour beginning January 1, 2015 (per the union contract) along with an excellent benefit package.
