Need a summer job? Interested in working in apple orchards and/or vineyards? Want to gain valuable experience with insect behavior and cutting edge pest management technology? 

The MSU Organic Pest Management Lab is looking for undergraduate research assistants to work during the 2017 summer field season (May to mid-August). Successful applicants will participate in a variety of research projects related to Solid Set Canopy Delivery (SSCDS) as well as other aspects of insect pest management. Never heard of SSCDS? It is an exciting new technology for applying agrochemicals to apples and other perennial crops. This summer we will be working on various improvements to the system. with interests in: organic fruit production, development of new agricultural technologies, and insect culture/behavior. Work will consist of both lab and field work. An example of work to be performed this summer include monitoring insect traps and assisting with fruit damage evaluations, building SSCDS components, and spray coverage evaluations on apples and grapes. 

Previous experience is not required. A willingness to learn, creativity and a work ethic is required. Applicants will need to have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and must be able to work well with others and independently. The work will require the ability to commit full days (8-12 hours) at 30+ hours per week.
