Extension Program Instructor – Consumer Horticulture 

Position Overview 

Provides leadership and oversight of local programs, clients and participants, related to Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) Consumer Horticulture and as part of the Agriculture/Agribusiness Institute. Oversees and ensures program/project promotion and expansion activities. Assists with data gathering for impact evaluation efforts, and works in conjunction with supervisor, program participants and community partners to attain both short-term and long-term goals and objectives. Through supervising educator, works in concert with the appropriate MSUE Institute and/or work team(s) to ensure alignment of programs with overall goals of work team, Institute and organization. In addition to local programming focus, this Consumer Horticulture Program Instructor position, though based in Leelanau County, Michigan, will serve on the statewide Extension consumer horticulture team. 

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

 Plan, organize and carry out programs related to Consumer Horticulture, including coordination of Master Gardener Program volunteers; and serving as the MSUE liaison with the Master Gardener associations, and other special projects with gardening groups. 

 Collaborate with the appropriate MSU Extension Institute work teams. 

 Provide expertise and information to clientele related to program area. 

 Plan, organize and implement programs that are relevant to program area and meet the needs of local residents. 

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications 

 Bachelor’s degree in field of study related to horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or crop science must be earned by the date of hire.
