Position summary

The Community Forester (CF) is a full-time position responsible for providing technical support to advance urban forestry projects across City neighborhoods in support of the City of Pittsburgh Urban Forest Master Plan and Tree Pittsburgh’s strategic plan. The CF provides support to the Director of Urban Forestry to manage professional tree care and planting contracts and conduct site assessment for tree planting and restoration projects. In addition, the CF works closely with community organizations and residents to develop strategies to plant and care for trees.

Essential Functions:

  •  Provide technical support to community development corporations and community organizations to assist with tree planting and tree care initiatives.

  •  Coordinate and manage tree planting and tree care contracts.

  • Utilize technology and research to quantify the value of tree planting projects and projected benefits

  • Coordinate and implement educational outreach efforts

  • Give presentations on urban forestry, tree care, maintenance and tree protection and other related topics to advance urban forestry and Tree Pittsburgh.

  • Assist with consulting projects
