The Baltimore Country Club is seeking an Assistant Horticulturist for its Five Farms campus in Timonium, MD. This full-time position is responsible for the installation, care, and maintenance of plants and landscape features throughout grounds for the enjoyment of members and guests year round. The position is under the supervision of the Director of Horticulture. Responsibilities include garden and container design and installation, seasonal enhancements, watering, IPM, and management of the club’s organic vegetable garden. Work is mostly independent, but requires occasional direction and supervision of 4 horticulture staff members, as needed.
Baltimore Country Club is among the oldest and most prestigious country clubs in the country. It was named by LINKS magazine among the top 100 clubs in the world. It is one of only 7 clubs in the country to operate on two campuses. The Five Farms campus is comprised of over 400 acres and includes two championship 18-hole golf courses, pool complex, fitness facility, tennis courts, and clubhouse facilities.
Minimum requirements for this position include a two-year degree in Horticulture or a related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate should be self-motivated and quality-driven, with excellent communication and organizational skills, plant materials knowledge, and problem solving ability. Knowledge of best practices, IPM, equipment operation, design, and Spanish language is desirable. Must be in excellent physical condition, able to perform repetitive tasks and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Weekend work, as well as additional overtime hours and some holidays, are required seasonally, as needed. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
