GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: 

The grower is directly responsible for the product quality. Tasks include maintaining the plant growing environment, nutrition management and application & crop record keeping. Follows all safety procedures, company polices and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s). 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

(Listed in order of importance and/or frequency) 

1. Constant care and monitoring of plants for optimum crop quality, climate, and yield 

2. Responsible for all aspects of growing, including: planting, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, spraying, harvesting, and packaging 

3. Assist with developing/documenting high quality standards and work instructions for consistently growing crops 

4. Follow all food safety procedures 

5. Utilize hours as necessary to finish daily tasks 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Perform all duties in accordance with the company policies and established procedures 

2. Operate all machinery and equipment in a safe manner 

3. Maintain clean work area and adhere to 5S standards on a regular basis 

 

CORE COMPETENCIES: 

Knowledgeable in the area of hydroponics, plant development and commercial farming. Possesses strong communication skills, ability to succeed in a self-directed work, problem solving and attention to detail. Ability to excel in a fast paced, start-up environment. Possesses the ability to distinguish between colors. Able to manipulate small hand tools. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

1. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, 10 to 15 times per day/shift 

2. Ability to continuously stand or walk 

3. Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently 

4. Fast-paced environment 

5. Will climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces during each shift 

6. May be required to work overtime 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’S): 

(AKA Qualifications) 

1. Must have an understanding of the horticulture process, specifically in the area of hydroponics 

2. Ability to produce a quality product at an efficient rate 

3. Ability to make sound decisions 

4. Must have good math skills 

5. Ability to understand and follow directions 

6. Must promote teamwork environment 

7. Must speak, read and write proficient English 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

1. BS or AS in Horticulture/Biology or related field or currently working towards degree; in addition to a degree, 3 or more years of relevant work experience to include controlled environment or greenhouse growing is preferred 

2. Commercial growing for at least 1 – 3 years preferred
