The Raker Trial Gardens are the Midwest destination for a complete floricultural exhibit and comparison trial experience. The Raker Trial Gardens were created to serve as an industry information resource. With a focus on education, we create and maintain over three acres of colorful floral displays that offer visitors a unique learning opportunity.

Highlights:

  • Annual Comparison Trials. Our row comparison trial offers a unique opportunity to view over 600 rows of annuals and perennials in a true, side-by-side comparison.  This season, we offer Ageratum, Bidens, Coleus from seed, Gomphrena, Heuchera, French Marigolds, Lavender, Mini Impatiens, Osteospermum, Pentas and Rudbeckia.
  • 14” Hanging Basket Trial. We present extensive prostrate and trailing variety comparisons. View over 350 14” baskets planted with the latest Double Impatiens, Lantana, Trailing Petunias from seed and Trailing Phlox.
  • Breeder Beds. Raker is proud to feature raised beds supported & designed by flower breeders from across the globe. Our participants include Ball Horticultural Company, Fides, Goldsmith Seed, Grimes Horticulture, Pan American Seed, Paul Ecke Ranch, Syngenta Flowers, Sakata Seed, Selecta First Class, Suntory, and American Takii Seed.
  • Patio Container Trials. Our new brick and stone display area features over 200 20” patio pots. We will feature over 50 new, 2009 seed introductions, over 125 combination pots designed by Raker staff and new area with combination pots designed by Raker customers across the country.
  • All-America Selections (AAS) Garden.  See what is in trial for this year and if you can pick out future winners.
  • Raker Colorscape. While visiting, don’t forget to take in the Raker Colorscape. We show off our favorite annual and perennial varieties in unique, colorful plantings around our offices and adjacent areas.
  • Facility Tours. See how we operate – from sticking and sowing to boxing and shipping.
