SPECIALIZATION AND AREAS OF INTEREST: My ultimate goal is to use genetic and biotechnology approaches to identify and develop turfgrass germplasm with greater biotic and abiotic stress resistance. Three broad goals are:
To develop breeding methodologies and marker assisted selection for increased disease resistance and turf quality in different turfgrass species.
To utilize intraspecific hybridization to obtain desirable characteristics in turfgrasses and the integration of conventional breeding and modern biotechnology for increasing biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in turfgrasses.
To understand the genetics of the cold tolerance mechanism in perennial ryegrass.
FOCUS OF EXTENSION PROGRAM:
Education and the promotion of science through local programs and activities.
Turfgrass establishment.
Establishment and promotion of grass seed production
industry in Michigan.
