Q&A with Lee Rainey

Freshman, Landscaping and Nursery Management, Institute of Agricultural Technology

Internship: TruNorth Landscaping; Traverse City, MI

Q: Summarize what you are doing this summer at your internship

A: I am getting experience in all fields of landscaping, hopping in different crews and conquering a new task every day and putting my education to the test.

Q: How did you choose or pick your internship?

A: I wanted to work for a company that loved what they do and focused on doing things the right way. I also wanted to work for a growing company where I felt that I could become a valuable asset to.

Q: What is the most important thing that you have learned from your internship?

A: The most important thing I learned was that it is so important to continue your education in landscaping when the industry is growing like a weed. This can be done by just surrounding yourself with knowledgeable landscapers you can constantly learn from each other who share the same passion as you for this industry.

Q: What was the biggest hardship, adjustment, or challenge of this internship?

A: The biggest challenge I have been facing this summer is the fact that summer is the busiest time of the year for a landscaping company and I am trying to take advantage of the very knowledgeable landscapers that I am surrounded by and learn everything I possibly can from them while at the same time keeping up with the fast paced tempo of the company.

Q: What will you miss the most when your internship ends?

A: I will miss the environment. TruNorth has been fortunate enough to put together a team of very talented landscapers who care about their work and have great pride at the end of the day when the job gets done right.
