Simcoe sweet cherry Simcoe sweet cherry

A public cultivar developed at Washington State University's Irrigated Agricutlure Research Center

Simcoe is a large, heart shaped, dark red cherry that is similar in appearance to Bing. It ripens in the early season, 6 to 8 days ahead of Bing. It has good firmness and acidity, and a lower tendency for rain-cracking than Bing.

Simcoe produces a vigorous, spreading tree and tends to crop well. It blooms slightly late and is not self-fertile. The pollen compatibilty group for Simcoe has not yet been classified.

Production and compatibility of Simcoe on rootstocks other than Mazzard is unknown at this time. To date, Simcoe has been released primarily in France.
