Facilities

Our department faculty and staff utilize many different facilities across campus and beyond to accomplish our goals in teaching, research and extension.  Below is a list of and information about each facility.

  • Center for Advanced Microscopy

    Center for Advanced Microscopy

    The Center for Advanced Microscopy, a Michigan State University Core Facility, is the central microscopy laboratory for the Michigan State University Campus.
  • Clarksville Research Center

    Clarksville Research Center

    The 440-acre CRC hosts research on small fruits and tree fruits as well as potatoes, chestnuts and a variety of other crops.
  • Horticulture Teaching and Research Center

    Horticulture Teaching and Research Center

    The 180 acre HTRC is located just south of campus in Holt, Michigan. The center meets the needs of field labs for outdoor classrooms as well as basic research.
  • Horticulture Teaching Greenhouses

    Horticulture Teaching Greenhouses

    These glass greenhouses are used primarily for teaching horticulture production classes.
  • MSU Diagonostic Services

    MSU Diagonostic Services

    The diagnostic clinic diagnoses plant problems caused by abiotic or biotic influences.
  • MSU Growth Chamber Facility

    MSU Growth Chamber Facility

    This facility maintains 199 growth chambers providing stringent temperature, light and humidity control.
  • Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center

    Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center

    This research center sits in the five-county northwestern region of Michigan that produces almost half of the U.S. supply of tart cherries.
  • Plant Science Greenhouses

    Plant Science Greenhouses

    Located near the corner of Farm Ln and Wilson Rd, the Plant Science Greenhouses are utilized by Horticulture faculty, as well as other departments for plant science research.
  • Research Technology Support Facility

    Research Technology Support Facility

    The Research Technology Support Facility at Michigan State University is a collection of five analytical facilities which provide the fundamental tools for modern life science research.
  • Soil and Plant Nutrient Laboratory

    Soil and Plant Nutrient Laboratory

    This lab provides teaching, research, and outreach support in analyzing soil and plant tissue samples for component and nutrient analysis.
  • Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center

    Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center

    This 350-acre facility is located in Berrien County, which is centered in the most horticulturally diverse region of the state. It houses research and educational projects on fruits, vegetables, and woody ornamentals.
  • Student Organic Farm

    Student Organic Farm

    The SOF is a 10-acre certified organic teaching and research farm that is also a working production farm.
  • The Plant Biotechnology Resource and Outreach Center

    The Plant Biotechnology Resource and Outreach Center

    The PBROC is dedicated to the safe deployment of plant biotechnological advancements to Michigan and the world.
