MAWBY FRUIT
COLLECTION
| "Fruit production has been a tradition in the Mawby family for nearly a century... for some a livelihood, for others an avocational interest. This garden is a particular tribute to Wesley G. Mawby of Kent County, and to his father, his brothers, and their descendants. It is established as a living memorial, that others may learn and enjoy." -Ruth and Russ Mawby |

| Trees and small fruits of Michigan are on display in the Mawby Fruit Collection. This orchard and vineyard garden is designed to represent the diversity in Michigan fruit production; demonstrate a broad spectrum of cultural practices, including several training systems in the production of fruit; and provide a working laboratory for use by horticulture students, professionals and the general public. |

| The plantings include varieties of historical prominence, along with present day favorites. Visitors can stroll through the garden-style collections or gaze at their favorite fruit from one of the gazebos. Selection of fruit species and varieties was finalized for planting in the spring of 1993. MSU Department of Horticulture pomology faculty members, F. Dennis, J. Flore, J. Hancock, E. Hanson, S. Howell, J. Hull, A. Iezzoni, and R. Perry have aided in compiling a list of fruits old and new to truly make the Mawby Fruit Collection a "Garden of Plenty." | ![]() |
